Health and Wellness Program

Providing Physical Care for a Better Life

Providing increased opportunities for a life without limits led United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham to establish the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program. Under the direction of Dr. Charlie Law, this new program initiative brings a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to medical services for children and adults with special needs, and provides a family-focused approach to medical care. One of only two physicians in Alabama board-certified in Pediatric Rehabilitation, Dr. Law comes to UCP from Children’s Hospital/UAB where he served as Director of Rehabilitation Services for 14 years.

For more than 60 years UCP has been a leader in innovative services for people with disabilities, and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program provides an enhanced level of medical care and services to those needing rehabilitative and physical medicine.

By improving access to healthcare for individuals with disabilities, we create measurable improvements in life expectancy and a significant increase in the quality of life for both people with disabilities and the families that provide support and care for them.  Individuals with disabilities are more likely to have multiple, severe physical needs that require medical care coordination.  By providing Health and Wellness services, we can reduce the demands placed on local hospitals and also dramatically improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.
