Childcare Enhancement With A Purpose Program
UCP recognizes the need for quality childcare options for children with disabilities. Childcare Enhancement With A Purpose (CCEP) is a training project, partially funded through the Department of Human Resources, that provides onsite training and ongoing technical assistance to providers of childcare on including children with special needs.
We offer:
- Free training on a variety of topics, including cognition, speech/language, and self-help skills.
- Curriculum - Play with a Purpose Curriculum is a multidisciplinary approach to play which utilizes developmentally appropriate practices and is available to all training sites.
- Funding for Subsitute Teachers - limited funds are available to training sites to help defray cost for substitutes while their staff are being trained.
- Training Clock Hours/CEUs
- Onsite consultation and technical assistance
- Resources/Contacts
- Educational Kits
Our training focuses on understanding typical child development and developmentally appropriate childcare practices. As a result, we are able to impact the care of all children with and without disabilities. The impact of our training has also raised the awareness for early identification of children at risk for developmental delays.
Childcare Enhancement With A Purpose serves nine counties - Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Etowah, Blount, Dekalb, Cherokee, Walker and Chilton. Through the program, UCP of Greater Birmingham has trained over 120 childcare centers and 58 home daycare sites since January 2002.
