IN-HOME SUPPORT SERVICES
In-Home Support Services are typically provided in the home of the individual (or their family's home) to assist the individual with activities of daily living, providing support to the individual and to their primary caregiver(s). By providing in-home support services, UCP can assist individuals to stay in their own homes longer, thereby living fuller, more meaningful lives. Studies have shown that as a caregiver's stress level increases the quality of care they provide decreases. By receiving assistance in their duties caregivers report a decrease in the level ofheir stress, their health often improves and the quality of care their family member receives improves. The individuals receiving services and their families are encouraged to actively participate in the process of selecting caregivers. By partnering with UCP in determining who will provide direct care services, individuals are empowered to choose the employee who best suits their needs.
To be eligible, an individual must qualify for the Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver and be referred by the Region II East Community Services office, a division of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.
In-Home Support Services include:
- Assistance with eating
- Personal hygiene
- Meal preparation
- Housekeeping chores (when specified in the plan of care)
In addition, other service options may include access to activities and programs in the community and training on activities of daily living.
