Community Living

The mission of the Community Living Program is to improve housing options for persons with disabilities statewide through education and increased awareness.  Training is available for housing professionals, realtors and housing counselors to assist them in working more effectively with persons with disabilities.  Topics include the essential elements of accessibility, financial restrictions, the importance of support services, working with your financial institution and laws that serve to protect persons with disabilities in order to assist them in finding an appropriate home, whether it is a rental unit or purchased.

AFFORDABLE ACCESSIBLE HOUSING

United Cerebral Palsy owns and leases seven accessible apartments in the Homewood area.  These units are totally accessible and are HUD subsidized.  To qualify you must meet HUD’s financial criteria, be able to live independently and have a disability that requires that you have an accessible home.

HOUSING FOR EVERYONE

The Community Living Program is committed to raising awareness and providing education on the need for affordable, accessible, and comfortable housing for people with disabilities.  To learn more about Universal Design or for links to other resources on the web, click here.
