Each year, we look forward to honoring those who make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities at our annual Life Without Limits Luncheon. It is a wonderful event celebrating our annual Life Without Limits Campaign and honoring individuals and groups that help us meet our mission of giving people with disabilities the opportunity to live their own life without limits.
This year’s luncheon was held on January 25, 2011 at The Wynfrey Hotel. Our good friend and long-time telethon anchor, Janet Hall of FOX6 WBRC, served as our emcee. Our friend and neighbor, Reverend John Mount of Aldersgate United Methodist Church led the invocation.
Perhaps most exciting was our guest speaker, Coach Gene Stallings, who has experienced first hand what it means to raise a child with a disability, and who has devoted much of his time, money, and effort to raise disability awareness through a number of different organizations.
This year’s honorees for the Life Without Limits Awards are a true representation of the commitment, dedication and support that we receive from the community. We were pleased to honor the following individuals and corporations:
Dr. Mark P. Cohen – Legacy Award
Birmingham VA Medical Center – Outstanding Employer
Samford University Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing – Outstanding Program Partner
Alabama Power Company – Outstanding Corporate Citizen
Ms. Karen Mitchell, Jefferson County Master Gardner – Outstanding Volunteer
The Life Without Limits Inspiration Awards were created to honor youth who have overcome obstacles and adversity to achieve their highest potential. Nominations were taken from all over the Birmingham metro area to recognize these outstanding young people, but only two were winners of the award. Congratulations to Libby Hancock and Joseph Bradley Motes for being chosen as our first Inspiration Award winners.
