Consumer Spotlight: Nicholas Sandlin
Mitchell has been involved in U.S. Kids Golf for several years now and Nick has recently gotten interested in playing golf so that he can hang out with Mitchell and his buddies. Nick has really seemed to enjoy it and Mitchell and his friends have seemed to take Nick under their wing, so much so that Mitchell decided that he wanted to find out a way to put together a Special Olympics Golf Tournament. I got in touch with the adaptive Physical Education department at our school and they signed us up to play in a Special Olympics Sectional Golf Tournament, where Nicholas competed in the skills competition. In order to advance to the second level which allowed him to play on the team with his brother he had to score a 60 on the skill evaluation – he scored a 72. This advanced him to play in the state Special Olympics Tournament that was held on the campus of Troy University on May 17, 2008. It was a wonderful opportunity for both of my sons and a wonderful weekend for my entire family. Nicholas and Mitchell placed second in the tournament and are already preparing for their next competition to be held in Mobile in October.
